The Trail U18 Orioles travelled to Cloverdale this weekend for a rainout on Saturday and two tough losses against the Rangers on Sunday (May 19).

After the Saturday doubleheader was called due to excessive rain, the Rangers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back on their way to back-to-back wins.

The Rangers plated a run in the bottom of the first on an Orioles error to take a 1-0 lead. The rest of the game saw a similar scenario unfold each inning as Cloverdale rolled to a 9-1 win.

Trail’s Owen Dickson went six innings allowing nine runs, five earned, on 11 hits, while striking out four and walking three.

Jake Theal earned the win for Cloverdale, surrendering seven hits and one run, while striking out eight and walking four.

The second half of the doubleheader was much closer in a 4-1 loss to the Rangers.

Although the Orioles defence struggled at times, there were positives.

Levi Konken had a solid start on the mound for the Orioles. The right hander went six strong innings giving up three earned runs, while striking out seven, and walking three batters.

The Orioles managed one run on an RBI from Raiden Dobie, who also went 1-for-3 on the day along with Dayton Graf.

The U18 Orioles are back in action at home on June 1 and 2.

The Orioles take on the first place Ridge Meadows Royals in a doubleheader at 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday (June 1), and will play Cloverdale at 9:30 a.m. and noon on Sunday.
