The Nancy Greene Skiers from Red Mountain Racers (RMR) and other local clubs have been skiing up a storm over the last three weekends, earning 22 of 45 medals.

These include eight gold, six silver, and eight bronze which came at competitions at Salmo on Feb. 6, Phoenix on Feb. 13, and two separate races at Whitewater on Feb. 20.

In Salmo, “conditions were great with an excellent course and fine weather,” said Linda Schultz of RMR. “Whitewater, as usual, had a very large team of enthusiastic racers. There were also teams from Summit Lake near Nakusp, Phoenix near Grand Forks, and the hometeam from Salmo,” she said, besides RMR from Rossland.

There were fewer racers at Phoenix, “but just as much energy,” she said. “With spectacular weather, there were nothing but rave reviews for the grooming and the snow conditions on the mountain.”

The races were completed in two hours, so “we took over the hill and enjoyed the great terrain park, and varied runs that Phoenix has to offer,” she said.

Schultz reported similarly good conditions and fun times at Whitewater last weekend.

Among the E2 girls, Kaysa Panke and Samantha Gaul of RMR earned several excellent results. Gaul got bronze at Salmo, gold at Phoenix, and silver in Race One at Whitewater. Panke earned silver in Salmo, bronze in Race One at Whitewater, and gold in Race Two.

Cassidy Markum earned bronze in Race Two as well.

The E2 boys from RMR have made a real show of it, sweeping the podium in all but one of the four races. “The boys are thrilled with their results,” Schultz said.

Gavin Patterson earned gold at both Salmo and Phoneix, and bronze in Race Two at Whitewater.

Orion Humphries earned silver at both Salmo and Phoenix, and gold in Race Two at Whitewater.

Noah Lunn earned bronze at Salmo, and Keegan Fry earned bronze at Phoenix and silver in both races at Whitewater.

September Stefani of RMR in the E3 girls category was at the top of the podium in Salmo and both races in Whitewater. “This is her first time on top of the podium in her individual racing career,” said a very pleased Schultz.

In the E3 boys category, Marco Santano earned bronze at both Phoenix and in Race One at Whitewater.
