Castlegar and Nakusp competed in the West Kootenay Playdowns

The West Kootenay Curling Zone Playdowns were held at the Castlegar Curling Club on Jan. 11 with two West Kootenay high school teams battling to proceed to to the next level.

"This event is very encouraging for the high schools in Zone 1, as it signals a growing interest in the game of curling at the high school level," said Castlegar Junior Curling coach Barb MacKay.

The local Stanley Humphries Secondary School Team consisting of Mica Snauwaert, Theo Kooznetsoff, Taejun Oh, Grady Rodgers and Greyson Evans took on the
Nakusp Lucerne High School Team consisting of Fisher Vibe-Coleman, Elliott Cooper, Nate Volansky, Felix Hornhonrdt and coach Cam Leitch.

The Castlegar team won the playdown and will now compete against the East Kootenay playdown winners on Jan. 25 in the East Kootenays. The winner from that match will represent Zone 1 at the BC High School Provincials on Feb. 26 to March 1st in Kimberley.

The SHSS girls curling team will also be attending the BC High School Provincials and have already accepted their seat.

Both teams are actively fundraising in anticipation of the provincials. Please contact Barb MacKay for sponsorship details 250-608-3900 or barb@barbmackay.ca.
