Bo Knows: Horvat scores a beauty, Canucks Young Stars down Sharks, 3-2

First-round picks Bo Horvat and Hunter Shinkaruk were in the lineup for victorious Vancouver, who downed San Jose, 3-2, on Thursday.

The Vancouver Canucks rookies beat the San Jose Sharks rookies

Call it a sign of things to come… hopefully.

In one shift, Bo Horvat showed Canucks fans that exact type of game that led Canucks general manager Mike Gillis to think the London Knights forward was not only worthy of a No. 9 pick, but that he was worth Cory Schneider.

Horvat delivered a hit, got back to control the puck in the defensive zone, made a nice outlet pass to fellow first-rounder Hunter Shinkaruk – who, if he makes the team in a reasonable amount of time, may forever be linked to Horvat, as well – and then hussled into Shark-infested waters to spin his first kind-of official Canucks goal home.

And, if you’re into the score and all, Vancouver got the better of that, too, besting San Jose 3-2 in the first game of the Penticton-based Young Stars Classic.

Rookie goalie Joacim Eriksson was a superstar in the win, stopping 38 of 40 shots for the Canucks. Nicklas Jensen added a goal for Vancouver, as did defenceman Daniel Johnston.

The Canucks managed just 25 shots on San Jose’s cage.
