We Are All Made of Molecules by Susin Nielsen, 2015

This awarding-winning young adult book is told from the alternating voices of Stewart (a gifted 13-year-old who lost his mother to cancer) and Ashley (a self-absorbed 14-year-old “popular girl” who recently found out her father was gay). The story begins when Stewart and his dad move in with Ashley and her mom. What happens from there made me laugh and cry — sometimes at the same time.

The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon, 2016

If you’re a young adult who loves romance, this is the book for you. In one day, 17-year-olds Daniel and Natasha test the science and magic behind falling in love. The same day that Natasha’s family is being deported to Jamaica and Daniel’s strict Korean parents are forcing him to interview with Yale.
