In Loving Memory ~
On April 9th, 2022 at the age of 78 years, Bob Kerby of Rossland, BC passed away peacefully at home with his wife Judy holding his hand.
Bob was born in Prince Rupert, BC and grew up in nearby Terrace, the oldest of 5 children in a family that worked and played together. He was also involved in track and field, band and Scouts, as well as working as a pin-boy at the Bowling Alley and on the green chain at the sawmill.
After graduation, he bought a car and drove to Vancouver where he attended UBC, receiving a BSc in Chemistry, and meeting and marrying his wife, Judith. He then moved to Ontario where he earned both his Masters and PhD in Metallurgical Engineering at Queens University.
Bob and Judy moved back to BC to be closer to their families and bought a farm in Happy Valley where they raised their four children. Bob loved his 44 years at Cominco (now Teck) in research and development and the Electrolytic Zinc Plant. He also travelled extensively around the world to help other plants install new equipment, some of which he designed and patented with his colleagues.
Bob was known for his weekly trips to the Rossland Thrift Store, for his commitment to the Rossland United Church where he taught Sunday School and served as treasurer on the Parish Council, for his work on the farm, and for his time with the Rossland Heritage Commission.
He was always reading and had a vast store of knowledge, with a special passion for stamp collecting. He lived gracefully with Parkinson's for many years.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Judy; his four children, Rebecca (Walter), Rachel (Grant), Joseph (Anie) and Lilli (Tom); his nine grandchildren; Tatyana, Kira, Max, Milan, Lausanne, Raphael, Noah, Nate, and Hunter; his siblings, Norma, Eric, and Eva, and their families; his other extended family members; and his friends and colleagues.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Mamie; his sister Judy; and his niece, Jannie.
A Memorial service followed by a light reception will be held on May 13th, 2022, at 11am in the Trail United Church, 1300 Pine Avenue, Trail, BC.
Memorial donations in Bob's name may be made to Trail United Church, 1300 Pine Avenue, Trail, BC. or to the Parkinson's Society of BC (1-800-668-3330 or on-line at parkinson.bc.ca.)
