September 18, 1943 - November 6, 2020
With great sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Bob Flegel on November 6, 2020.
Bob is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of 55 years Patsy; daughter Tracy and her children Connor and Tyler; daughter Lee-Ann, her husband Jim, and their children James and Chloe; and son Robert and his partner Tomo.
He also leaves behind his sister Priscilla, brothers Rick, Ted, and Bill, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Bill and Marjorie and brother Tom.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to the paramedics and RCMP who tended to Bob in his passing and to his physician Dr. Scully.
Bob was born in Trail (Tadanac) on September 18, 1943 and was raised in Rossland where he proudly lived until his passing. This little mountain town was an important part of his life.
He showed this through a keen interest in its history and through his dedication to the community throughout the years as a volunteer fireman, volunteer ambulance attendant, and three-term city council member.
Bob worked for B.C. Tel from 1965 until 1998. Always an expert craftsman, in his retirement, he honed his skills as a fine woodworker and talented railway modeller. In recent years, you could find him ensuring the comfort, safety, and welfare of the tenants at Esling Park Lodge where he first served as a board member and unofficial caretaker and most recently as the building manager.
Above all, Bob was a dedicated and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His love for and loyalty to his family, both immediate and extended, and his friendship to many, many more were unconditional and unwavering.
No favour was ever denied big or small: from the mundane to the physical, and in times of sadness or joy, and he expected nothing in return. If you needed a ride to the hospital or help building a deck, a place to call home until you could get back on your feet, a hand to support a sick or dying family member in your absence, or an MC for your wedding or retirement, Bob was there for you. Along with his loving wife Patsy, his generosity was limitless.
So if you were lucky to know Bob and to benefit from his love, friendship, help, and kindness, return the favour to someone in his honour. Buy them a coffee, offer them a helping hand, lend them an ear, give them your time. Nothing would make him any happier.
