April 24, 1937 - April 15, 2021
It is with great sadness that we say our final goodbyes to our beautiful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Annie Waite. She was a woman of gentle spirit who nurtured and enriched our family beyond measure. Annie passed away surrounded by family at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital on April 15, 2021 at the age of 83.
Annie was born in Trail, BC to Joe and Helen Hill, the fourth of seven children, and was raised in the Trail area, growing up with her siblings in Warfield. Upon graduating high school, she worked in the assay office at Cominco and soon met the love of her life, Art Waite. They married and moved to Rossland where they raised their four boys.
Annie and Art lived in Rossland for over fifty years before moving back to Trail in retirement. Annie was active in the Rebekah Lodge for many years and volunteered for the hospital auxiliary in Rossland. She was a lifelong avid reader and knitter of garments, many of which still adorn family and friends.
After the passing of Art, her beloved husband of 60 years in 2018, Annie's health deteriorated due to dementia and cancer and she spent the last year of her life at Chateau Manor. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of the manor for their excellent care, compassion, and kindness.
Annie is survived by her four sons; Gerry of Revelstoke, BC, Larry (Nancy) of Calgary, Alberta, Rob (Jane) of Nanoose Bay, BC and Kelly (Paulette) of Trail BC, grandchildren; Jennifer, Timothy, Garrick, Isaac, Joanna, Jessie, Annika, Darcy (Kristin) and Owen, and great-grandsons; Garrett and Aeron. She is also survived by her brothers; Tom of Castlegar, BC and Don of Grand Forks, BC.
Annie was predeceased by her husband Art, parents Joe and Helen, and siblings Marilyn, Ken, Sheila and Fern.
Due to current COVID restrictions, a memorial service will be held at a later date for family and friends to gather and celebrate Annie's life. Andreas Schmitz of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation ServicesTM has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, please consider a donation in memory of Annie to an early reading program in your area.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence at the family's online register at www.myalternatives.ca
