Alberto Louie Cavallin

May 21st, 1925 - November 2nd, 2009

Alberto Louie Cavallin died unexpectedly on November 2nd, 2009 at his home in Hope, BC.

Al was born in Trail, BC on May 21st, 1925 to Carmella and Victor Cavallin. With his brothers Armando and Andrea, he grew up and received his public school education “up the Gulch”. He went on to attend UBC and then joined the army.

Al returned to Trail to work for CM&S and it was there that he met and married Bea. They moved to Tahsis, then to Kelowna, then Trail, and finally to Kimberley, where Al worked for Cominco as a chief steam engineer until he retired. After retirement, Al and Bea moved to Vancouver Island, and then to Hope.

As a teen, Al was a member of the Trail Midget Smoke Eaters where they won the 1939/1940 BC championship. He went on to play with the Trail Junior Smoke Eaters. He continued to enjoy and participate in the sport as a coach for minor hockey, as a Kimberley Dynamiters fan, and a dedicated backyard rink builder for his own and the neighborhood children. Al especially liked exploring BC’s outdoors. With his wife and children, he enjoyed camping, cutting firewood, collecting mushrooms, hunting and fishing.

Al was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Armando and Andrea, and his brother-in-law Steve Bonin. He is survived by his loving wife Lucille (Bea) Cavallin, and his four children: Kim, Bob (Debbie Cavallin), Sherry (Fred Cleutinx) and Loren (Shaun Bergmann). Al will also be missed by his seven grandchildren: Angelina, Sofie, Michelle, Tyson, Erin, Maggie, and Hayley.
