Your vote is your voice.

So with mic in hand for public questions, the local chamber is hosting an all-candidates forum in the Cominco Gym on Thursday, April 20. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with concluding remarks from the Kootenay West riding representatives slated to wind up in two hours.

“As a non-partisan organization, the Trail and District Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Provincial All Candidates Meeting,” confirmed Executive Director Audry Durham. “This event is free for the public to attend and offers an opportunity to our members and all voters to meet the candidates and to become familiar with their platforms.”

All three candidates have confirmed their attendance . Katrina Conroy incumbent NDP MLA and the Green Party’s Sam Troy and the Liberal party’s Jim Postnikoff will be ready to speak and take questions from the audience.

Former Rossland politician Bill Profili will be moderating the forum. The evening will open, in alphabetical order, with each candidate presenting themselves from the speakers’ table.

Each candidate will be given two minutes to make an opening statement before the event moves into Round 1. The public will have opportunity to direct a question at one candidate via an open microphone format. Each query cannot take longer than one minute to ask, and respondents must answer within two minutes.

As moderator, Profili will rule “out-of-order” any questions deemed inappropriate, offensive and derogatory, that would seem to attack the integrity of the candidate, or brings the chamber’s reputation into disrepute.

If a question to a specific candidate also includes another, the moderator can allow the second candidate to respond to the question as well.

Finally, the moderator will rule out-of-order any person who attempts to use the meeting as a personal platform for expressing a prejudicial point-of-view.
