The BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) announced on Wednesday that charges have been approved against Trail RCMP Cst. Steven Allan Murchie.
According to the July 8 BCPS news release, Murchie is being charged with breach of trust in connection with the duties of his office, criminal harassment, and forcible entry.
The charges involve allegations of misconduct against two individuals between January 2017 and May 2020 at or near Trail, the release reads.
An Information charging Murchie with these Criminal Code offences was sworn on July 3 in the Rossland courthouse.
Murchie’s next appearance is scheduled for Sept. 17 in Rossland Provincial Court.
A ban on publication of the names of the targets of the alleged misconduct has been ordered by the court pursuant to section 486.5(1) of the Criminal Code.
The charges were approved by a senior Crown Counsel with no prior or current connection with the officer, according to the July 8 announcement.
As this matter is now before the court, the BCPS stated it will not be releasing additional information or commenting further at this time.
