Rossland's population sees increase

Rossland has seen a substantial population increase in the past five years.

Rossland has seen a substantial population increase in the past five years. The number of people calling Rossland home has increased by 8.5 per cent, according to the latest census data.

Statistics Canada released its 2011 census this week and it shows that Rossland has had the highest population growth in the Greater Trail area.

Rossland's population total 3,556 in 2011, up from 3,278 the last time the census was taken back in 2006.

Meanwhile other populations in the area have also seen increases in 2011. Trail's population went up by about six per cent to 7,681, from 7,237, while Fruitvale saw an increase of 3.3 per cent, with numbers up to 2,016, from 1,952.

Montrose saw an increase of 1.8 per cent to 1,030, from 1,012, while Warfield had a decrease of 1.7 per cent.

The census is conducted by Statistics Canada every five years.
