Rossland city council awarded the Washington St. tender to Copcan at a special city council meeting on Monday afternoon.
Copcan not only has a proven track record with the city, having acted as the contractor on the Columbia Ave. project, but also came back with the cheapest quote at $6,099,100.50.
The tender does not represent the total cost of the Washington St. project, as there are other costs, including the planning costs incurred so far. The total estimated cost is $7.5 million, but council has since decided to cut $60,000 in optional work.
Optional work council decided to postpone includes landscaping, which can be done at a later time, and the water main extensions along Third and Fifth Ave., which can also be done later.
Capcon is expected to start mobilizing for construction next week.
