Rossland begins spring cleanup

Public works staff began picking up organic material on May 2, and will finish their sweep of lower Rossland by May 6 and will focus on the rest of Rossland — Pinewood, Blackbear, and upper Rossland — from May 9 to 13.

Public works staff began picking up organic material on May 2, and will finish their sweep of lower Rossland by May 6 and will focus on the rest of Rossland — Pinewood, Blackbear, and upper Rossland — from May 9 to 13.

Residents in these areas should have their items beside the road by 7 a.m. on May 9. The city will pass each residence only once and items placed on boulevard after city crews have passed will not be picked up.

Two kinds of waste can be left for the city to pick up, but public works staff ask that some guidelines be followed for tree trimmings in bundles and yard waste in bags. Gravel and sand should be raked onto the asphalt surface, but not in a pile.

Tree trimmings must be narrower than four inches in diameter and shorter than 10 feet. Households are limited to three bundles of trimmings, not larger than four feet in diameter each. Bundles are best left on unmaintained boulevards.

Larger branches must be taken to the Trail landfill, city staff advise.

Yard waste should consist of leaves and grass clippings — no branches, dirt, sod, or rocks — placed in clear plastic bags to a maximum of 20 pounds.

City staff emphasize that it is the owner’s responsibility to take all other refuse to the appropriate recycling facilities or the landfill site.

A sweeper will take to the streets following the spring clean-up. Concerns should be directed to public works at 362-2328.
