INTERIOR LUMBER MANUFACTURERS’ ASSOCIATION (ILMA)

The Board was pleased to welcome ILMA delegates Chair of ILMA Ken Kalesnikoff, Kalesnikoff Lumber employees Kailee Woodbeck and Dwane Soreson to its meeting.

Kailee gave a presentation regarding the concerns from the public and licensees, the history and current practices for harvesting in watersheds.

Following Kailee’s presentation, Dwane discussed the reduction in timber harvest from 1992-2010, the areas within the Kootenays that are operable for harvesting and the importance of working together to enhance watershed management.

After both presentations, Ken Kalesnikoff addressed the Board’s questions.

FIELDS FORWARD –MOBILE JUICER PROJECT

Tanya Wall, Electoral Area B, gave a presentation on the successes of the Fields Forward Mobile Juicer project and the 2017 highlights. She indicated over 180,000 lbs of cherry culls were diverted from landfills, cherry mash has been dispersed to local farmers for feed and over 27,000 litres of cherry juice has been made and is being sold. She thanked the many sponsors and the hard-working team of volunteers that have made the project a success.

PORTION OF ELECTORAL AREA J ANIMAL CONTROL SERVICE -ALTERNATIVE APPROVAL PROCESS

The Board has directed staff to proceed with obtaining approval of the electors of the Portion of Electoral Area J Animal Control Service Area (Robson) by Alternative Approval Process (AAP) to determine service expansion to include Ootischenia and Fairview Areas.

GLADE REGIONAL PARK: GLADE FERRY ASSEMBLY

The Board request staff engage with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to discuss the steps for public consultation on the disassembling and disposal of the old Glade ferry.

MOSQUITO CONTROL PROGRAM

The Board has directed staff to negotiate and execute a sole source contract for the Mosquito Control Program for the Electoral Area D Mosquito Control Extended Service Area and Pineridge Subdivision Mosquito Control Area.

YMIR RESERVOIR REPLACEMENT

The Board awarded the “Ymir Reservoir Replacement –Water Main Connection” contract to Trainor Mechanical Contractor Ltd.
