Saturday afternoon (May 20), first responders from the Trail RCMP, Kootenay Boundary fire service, and ambulance, responded to a report of a person who appeared to be in distress in the 1600 block of Bay Avenue, in downtown Trail.

An officer arrived first on scene and discovered that the person, a 52-year-old Trail man, was deceased.

The officer interviewed a witness who suspected the man consumed street drugs prior to his death.

The cause of death is not yet determined; however, police say that foul play is not suspected at this time.

Trail RCMP have turned the investigation over to the BC Coroner Service.

“Trail RCMP continue to express its concerns about the loss of life on the streets due to the current toxic drug supply,” says Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.
