The incident was set in motion Sunday night (Feb. 27), when police say a 2021 Jeep Cherokee was taken from a car lot in Cranbrook

An employee at Sirius XM Radio tracked the Jeep to Grand Forks, giving its location to 911 dispatch as it neared the 2900-block of Central Avenue a short time after 5:20 a.m., Monday. At around the same time, Grand Forks RCMP responded to an alarm at an area-business, where Peppler said four sets of car keys were stolen.

Mounties soon caught up to the man at a parking lot on the 7300-block of Sixth Street, where Peppler said the suspect tried to drive through two police cruisers that had blocked him in. Failing this, the man initially refused to give himself up.

The man eventually relented and was taken into custody following his arrest, Peppler said.

Thirty-two-year-old Kyle Richard Pace of Lethbridge, Alta. faces charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000, flight from police and breaking and entering to commit an indictable offence, according to Peppler.

Court records show that Pace appeared at a bail hearing in Grand Forks Monday afternoon. That hearing was adjourned to Kelowna provincial court for Tuesday, March. 1.
