Rossland city staff released its quarterly report on the comprehensive 2021 Corporate Management Work Plan to city council Oct. 4.
The Q3 report addresses all projects, planning and developments tackled or proposed by the city from July 1 to Sept. 30, 2021.
It covers everything from administration and corporates services, engineering and public works, financials, planning and development, and recreation services.
From asset management to capital projects, the report identifies all city initiatives, including schedules, how much it’s expected to cost, work in progress, and when the initiatives are to be completed.
“These reports are so awesome and yet the vast majority of citizens never get a chance to read them,” said Coun. Andy Morel. “It gives some idea of how busy our community is and how hard working our staff are. I know most people don’t realize everything that’s going on.”

The city received an Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) grant worth almost $1.9-million to apply to upgrades, and work is 90 per cent complete.
The project included replacement of the chlorine gas disinfection system, installation of a new Soda Ash system, installation of turbidity metres, motorized actuators, a standby generator and replacement of the antiquated SCADA (control and data) system and is expected to be completed this year.
“All activities in the 2021 Corporate Management Work Plan are contained in the City’s current 2021 Budget and corresponding 5-Year Financial Plan,” reads the report. “Any future adjustments to the current work plan as presented may require additional review and/or amendment to future Budgets/Financial Plans, and vice versa.”
Residents can keep up to date with major capital projects such as the Midtown Mixed Use Development, which started construction in early June. According to the report, the city is waiting for final approval of Federation for Canadian Municipalities grant application worth about $3 million.
And smaller projects, such as the Wagon Road Trail and Aqueduct Trail, have been completed.
Works in progress include Centre Star Gulch Dam Improvement, Bike Hub and Welcome to Rossland Sign via RMI.
Also, by consulting the reports, residents can keep up with progress on projects like regional age-friendly programming, the Rossland Arena Plan, Rossland Museum upgrades and the Recreation Master Plan.
The reports are provided quarterly and can be found at the City of Rossland website.
Due to COVID, some projects have been postponed or delayed and budgets adjusted accordingly.
