52-year-old man succumbs to injuries, police investigating

Police have released the names of those involved in a fatal incident Sunday night.

Scott Douglas Decembrini, 52, of Fruitvale was rushed to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital Sunday evening just before 10 p.m. where he succumbed to his injuries.

Jordan Brian Shimell, 24, listed as a resident of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, has been charged with second degree murder following his arrest at the scene.

According to a Tuesday RCMP news release, Shimell remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in Rossland Provincial Court on Jan. 5.

With assistance from the Kootenay Boundary Regional District RCMP and Trail & Greater District RCMP, the BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate. A 52-year-old man is dead and a 24-year-old man is in custody after police responded to a Fruitvale residence on Sunday night.

On Dec. 28 at 9:51 pm, the Trail & Greater District RCMP received a report of a man suffering serious, life-threatening injuries at a residence in Fruitvale.

Officers arrested a suspect without incident at the scene while the 52-year-old resident was rushed to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Pending notification of next of kin the family has requested that the name of the deceased not be released.

The suspect and victim were known to each other; the suspect remains in police custody pending further investigation.

The BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit, with assistance from Kootenay Boundary Regional District RCMP and Trail & Greater District RCMP resources, continues the investigation.
