Traffic was delayed outside Fruitvale Sunday morning (Nov. 19) after a commercial rig slid off the highway shortly after 9 a.m.
Police say the driver, a 35-year-old Abbotsford man, informed the officer that he had been slowly driving the commercial tractor-trailer when he lost control on the icy road surface.
The truck slid off the highway and ended up on its side.
Reportedly, the driver was not injured.
The officer suspected that icy roads, a lack of winter tires, and two bald tires, were factors in the cause of the crash.
The driver was issued a $138 fine for failing to comply with trip inspection requirements.
“Winter road conditions are now in effect,” advises Sgt. Mike Wicentowich. “Please make sure you have proper winter tires and an emergency survival kit in your vehicle.”
Be prepared for sudden emergencies and delays when travelling in the area, he adds.
