Two hikers got lost on the Monte Christo – KC trails last Sunday night, but were recovered by Rossland Search and Rescue (SAR) without incident.
The hikers got turned around and were headed the wrong way — unbeknownst to them — when one of the hikers lost their footwear and couldn’t proceed any further.
“Luckily that happened,” said David Braithwaite of SAR, “as they thought they were heading to Rossland, but actually they were headed on the backside towards Trail and Genelle.”
If the hikers had been able to proceed, “it would have been much more severe,” he said, because it would have been much more difficult to find them.
As it was, Braithwaite said, “We found them and brought them back to the paramedics, and they spent the rest of the evening at the Trail hospital.”
