A heli-skier died after falling into tree well while skiing near Revelstoke on Friday.

RCMP say the victim, a 60-year-old German man, was on his last run of the day near Albert Canyon at around 2:30 p.m. when he was noticed missing from the group.

The guides immediately initiated a search and found the man buried face down in a tree well. They had a defibrillator and oxygen available and administered CPR until the man could be turned over to BC Ambulance.

Unfortunately, attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died at Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke.

No foul play was involved and the incident is being investigated by the BC Coroner Service.

The name of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Tree wells are a known backcountry hazard. They are created when snow covers up a hollow area around the bottom of a tree.
