Saturday night (June 1), the Trail RCMP and a BC Highway Patrol officer, received a report about a vehicle swerving back and forth on Highway 22, near Genelle.

Officers located the vehicle and detained the driver roadside.

An officer spoke to the person behind the wheel — an 18-year-old South Slocan woman — about her reportedly distracted driving.

Police say she admitted to eating a bowl salad while driving, resulting in swerving all over the road.

“Lettuce” say she was lucky, and got out of the situation with only a warning about distracted driving.

“In this case, salad could be bad for you, if you cause a crash,” advises Sgt. Mike Wicentowich, Trail detachment commander.

“Any kind of activity that distracts you from driving can be considered distracted driving, and a hefty fine can be issued.”

In the Province of B.C., every ticket for distracted driving includes a fine of $368 and four driver penalty points.
