A Rossland family has been displaced after a fire caused considerable damage in their home on Tuesday.

“Three people lived in the house,” Fire Chief Dan Derby told the Trail Times Wednesday morning. “It was a stubborn fire because it was electrical and in the walls. Right now they are not in the home because of the severity of the fire damage.”

The family is being supported by the regional disaster team from the Canadian Red Cross, Derby said.

“We will be going back up there shortly, the fire is under investigation, so we will work with their insurance as well.”

The 9-1-1 of a structure fire on the 1700 block of Second Avenue came into Regional District of Kootenay Boundary Fire Rescue shortly after 2:30 p.m. on June 11.

“Upon arrival, crews were met with smoke exiting the eaves of the house,” reported Captain Greg Ferraby.

A crew of 24 firefighters responded, including 14 members from Station 371 Rossland, eight from Station 374 Trail, and four from Station 372 Warfield.

Captain Ferraby lists the fire as “under control” at 3:54 p.m.

No injuries were reported by the occupants or firefighters.
