Fall is in the air and the fruit trees are bursting with fresh ripe apples, so let’s try and get those apples before the bears do.

As a community we can make a difference to reduce bear attractants. A community fruit picking day has been organized by this coming Saturday, Sept. 16.

We will be spreading out around the community and picking fruit from trees located on public land. Meet at Ecole de Sept Sommets at 9 a.m. Bring your own ladders, boxes and apple-picking pails.

Many things can be done with this season’s abundance and apple pressing is just one way to transform your apples into juice. Community apple pressing days are organized for Sept. 17 and Oct. 8.

You can register for fruit pressing online by going to the Rossland Sustainability Commission’s Facebook page. Two to three big boxes of apples will yield approximately 25 litres of juice.

Community fruit tree gleaning: Saturday, Sept. 16, 9 a.m., meeting location: Ecole de Sept Sommets (2160 St Paul St, Rossland)

Apple pressing: Sunday, Sept. 17 and Sunday, Oct. 8. Register for a pressing time on the Rossland Sustainability Commission’s Facebook page
