The Gnarlie's Angels came out on top in their match against Castlegar’s Dam City Rollers on Friday, but Injure Spice — who's alter-ego Shannon Marion "doesn't exist on the weekend" — reported that it was a harder fought win than earlier in the season.
"The Dams are stepping up, they're working hard. They're getting more evenly matched and more entertaining to watch as a spectator," she said.
The game is certainly changing, she added, as the teams practise more and experienced players help new players get up to speed.
"The (Salmo) Babes (of Brutality) and Angels are going to other venues and practising with the new teams. We're helping one another out and advancing the game."
"The teams are advancing," Spice said, but noted some disappointment that the crowd wasn't as big as in previous bouts. "We work hard to put on a good show," she said.
The next double-header bout is in Nelson on July 8, and half of the proceeds will go towards Habitat for Humanity, in particular a house that is being built in Castlegar.
"We're hoping to get some hammers and get out there as well, but the thing we can do right now is give them a little money for materials," Spice said.
"The community gets out there, supports us, cheers us on, wears crazy clothes and rings cow bells. We want to give back to the community and help other people."
