A mama bear in B.C. is spotted lifting her cub off a highway in the Kootenays

Videographer Ricky Forbes was passing through B.C.'s Kootenay National Park when he noticed a baby bear sitting on the side of the highway, and he decided to snap some footage of the stranded cub.

Instead, he witnessed "the coolest thing" he's ever seen, as the much larger mama bear reached over the highway's cement wall and picked her pup up with its jaw, pulling it to safety.

The young bear can be heard making a sound as his mom picks him up and traffic whistles by, while another pup hops up on the divider before quickly jumping off to safety, as well.

"We stopped to capture a shot of a baby bear on the highway only to get much more of a show," Forbes wrote on Newsflare.com, where he posted his video. "While watching the cub we saw the mama bear stick it's head over the barrier to save it's young from its dangerous predicament. A very amazing sight to see."

Forbes is a tornado hunter who lives in Canmore, Alberta and works for the site TornadoHunter.com. His bio says he has been chasing tornadoes for two years and has pursued 41 twisters.

So, if this really was the coolest thing he's ever seen – as he remarks in the video above – than that's saying something.

The video, posted on YouTube by the Daily Mail (and their web-based alter-ego MailOnline) currently has almost 167,000 views.

Forbes' bio says he's a web designer and adrenaline junkie, and his other shots below might attest to that.
