Man dies in Highway 3 collision near Cranbrook

One man died and others were treated for injuries following a collision between two vehicles on Highway 3 east of Cranbrook on Sunday, Oct. 13.

One man died and others were treated for injuries following a collision between two vehicles on Highway 3 east of Cranbrook on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Cranbrook RCMP, along with BC Highway Patrol, BC Ambulance Service and Search and Rescue responded to a report of a collision on highway 3 near Coopman Rd. in the late afternoon according to an RCMP news release.

Police say the driver of a silver sedan crossed the centre line, colliding with a red GMC pickup truck.  

The male driver of the silver sedan died on scene, while the occupants of the pickup truck were treated at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook for non-life-threatening injuries.

“This is yet another tragic addition to our highway fatalities” said Staff Sgt. Barry Graham.  “Our condolences go out to the friends and family of the deceased."

Police say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
