The BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal motor vehicle incident that occurred last month and is appealing to the public for witnesses or video footage to aid the investigation.

The incident took place shortly before midnight on Jan. 9.

According to police reports, Laura Morrison, a 38-year-old Fruitvale woman, reportedly fell from the front passenger side of a moving white 2023 Ford F-150 pickup truck on Old Rossland Avenue in Trail.

She sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital, where she later died.

Authorities say a male was observed at the scene before driving away in the pickup truck.

The driver was known to Morrison, and investigators are working to determine the circumstances leading to her death.

“MCU investigators are looking to confirm the circumstances leading up to Laura’s death and to determine whether there was any criminality involved,” said Insp. Brent Novakoski of the BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit.

Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who has not yet come forward or anyone with in-car video or CCTV footage from Rossland Avenue on Jan. 9 between 3 p.m. and midnight.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit’s information line at 1-877-987-8477.
