First-ever youth female hockey tournament in Trail goes Friday, Feb. 7, to Sunday, Feb. 9

The U18 West Kootenay Wildcats are gearing up for an exciting weekend as they host their first-ever youth female hockey tournament in Trail from Friday, Feb. 7, to Sunday, Feb. 9.

With hopes of making this an annual tradition, the Wildcats are inviting the community to come out and support the teams in action.

Six teams from British Columbia, Alberta, and Idaho will be competing, making this a must-see showcase of female hockey talent.

This tournament is another great opportunity for local fans to celebrate the growth of female hockey.

Participation numbers are at an all-time high this year, with the region boasting full female teams at the U7 and U9 levels for the first time ever, alongside the U13 and U18 regional teams based in Trail.

The tournament format includes three preliminary round games for each team, followed by playoff match-ups on Sunday.

Teams that don’t advance to the playoffs will still get a chance to compete in a consolation game on Sunday.

The U18 Wildcats tournament committee encourages the community to come out and watch a weekend of high-energy hockey and cheer on these talented young athletes.
