Looking for backyard fun on Canada Day?
Rossland’s backyard music scene is hitting a high note again this July 1 with the return of Turkey Jam, a grassroots festival hosted at The Wild Turkey Inn.
“My husband and I are hosting a Canada Day/Arts Fundraiser at The Wild Turkey Inn,” said Shauna Ullman, owner of the property alongside her husband Mike Tigges.
“This is our fourth annual event, and it features bands from Rossland on an outdoor stage that we build each year."
She added that all proceeds from the day go toward supporting Rossland’s local arts community.
The July 1 event will run from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the garden of the Wild Turkey Inn and promises a mix of live local music, an open taco bar, and a community potluck.
Guests are invited to bring their favourite side dish or a creative taco twist to share.
Admission is $20 per adult, which includes music, tacos, and a contribution to local arts initiatives.
Children eat for free, and are reminded to steer clear of the sound system!
The hosts encourage a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere where guests are welcome to pay what they can.
Dogs are also welcome to join the festivities.
Attendees are invited to bring their own beverages, with the hosts providing the laid-back garden vibe.
Guests are encouraged to bring a camp cup, picnic blanket, and an open mind, especially for tacos.
The event also marks the launch of The Maker’s Cut, an ongoing art sale that supports local creators and the community.
Those with creative pieces to contribute are encouraged to get involved.
Half of all proceeds from the art sale will go to the contributing artist and the other half to the fundraiser.
Donations are welcome, with all proceeds going to the Rossland Arts Centre Society and Lofty Goal’s Emerging Artist Residency.
The Residency is a 12-day program facilitated by Lofty Goal Project. The 2025 residency, scheduled to run from Aug. 1 to Aug. 12, supports three early emerging dance and/or theatre artists as they develop new work in the mountain town.
"The aim of this residency is to provide early emerging artists with the uninterrupted time and space to dive into research for a new work in a new environment that is free of day-to-day distractions and full of fresh inspiration," the project explains on its website.
"Each artist will come to the residency to focus on their own work and research, but will move through the program as a cohort with the support of fellow artists in residence, residency facilitators, and the wider community."
