It was a tremendous turnout for the Silver City Days parade this past weekend.
An incredible 79 registrants entered the parade managed by the Trail Firefighters Local 941.
Always a favourite event in the five-day schedule, the parade is a unique exhibition of business, youth athletics, local and regional government, service and support organizations, and community ambassadors.
This year, top prize was awarded to Teck for their impressive new float.
The company’s record as regular parade hosts and participants in the city is a long one.
Its most comprehensive float exhibitions came in 1951, when the City of Trail celebrated its 50th birthday, then in 1981, to celebrate the company’s 75th anniversary.
In both instances, Cominco hosted industrial parades to showcase their craftsmanship and departmental pride.
Thousands turned out to celebrate these commemorative events and our community.
Concepts and design were kept secret, specifically for the 1951 event; float planners feigned indifference when asked about their entries.
But, departmental rivalry was alive and well, each trying to outdo the other.
As a result, the creative interpretation of the company at the time, proudly designed, built, and presented by employees, was a spectacle to behold.
Cominco was always the ultimate party guest and host; Teck is taking the legacy quite seriously!
