The Smokettes recently made another generous donation to a local cause.

Following a break-in at the Rossland Youth Action Network (YAN) last week, some video game equipment the organization had spent a year saving for was stolen.

"The Smokettes are hoping this donation will replace most of it," said team member Bridgett Kivell.

The Trail Smokettes organize an annual fundraising hockey tournament every February, with proceeds supporting various local causes.

The tournament features eight men’s and five women’s teams from communities such as Rossland, Grand Forks, Nakusp, Revelstoke, and even as far away as Pender Island in the Gulf of Georgia, B.C.

“We rely on corporate monetary donations and local business contributions for door prizes to offset the tournament’s costs, allowing us to give back as much as possible to our communities,” Kivell shared in a previous interview with the Trail Times.

Proceeds from the tournament also support local food banks and other community initiatives.

The Trail Smokettes describe themselves as a hockey team welcoming players of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to experts, with a shared goal of having fun.

“Cheers, beers, brassieres! Smokettes!”
