Residents of the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) will soon have the chance to delve into the proposed 2025 budget and five-year financial plan, and how these will affect local taxpayers.

A series of town hall meetings is set to take place throughout the region in the coming weeks, offering an opportunity for direct engagement with local directors and administrative staff.

The first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m. in the Fruitvale Memorial Hall.

This Area A session is designed specifically for Beaver Valley residents, including those from Montrose and Fruitvale, who rely on regional services.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear directly from Area A Director Ali Grieve and RDKB staff.

Next, residents of Area B/Lower Columbia-Old Glory can attend a town hall on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 6 p.m. in the Genelle Community Hall.

These meetings aim to shed light on the inner workings of the RDKB, including how taxpayer dollars are allocated and what services they fund.

“We want your input on service budgets in your area,” the RDKB states. “We encourage you to contact your area director or post your questions at ‘Join the Conversation.’ Staff will endeavour to answer your questions as soon as possible.”

Budget documents will be available on the RDKB website following the town hall meetings.

For those unable to attend in person, feedback and questions can be submitted online through the “Join the Conversation” portal at rdkb.com. Additionally, presentations and polling results from each town hall will be posted online for public access.

The final report on the town hall process is expected to be released in early spring.

Town halls will wrap up in March with: Electoral Area C/Christina Lake: Monday, March 3, 6 p.m., Christina Lake Community Hall; Electoral Area D/Rural Grand Forks: Wednesday, March 5, 6 p.m., USCC Hall, Grand Forks; Electoral Area E/West Boundary: Thursday, March 6, 6 p.m., Rock Creek Pavilion; and Electoral Area E/Big White: Tuesday, March 4, 6 p.m. (virtual meeting).

These town halls provide a vital platform for residents to engage with their representatives, ask questions, and offer input on how local tax dollars are spent.

The RDKB encourages residents to take part and don’t miss a chance to contribute to the conversation.
