The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 14 in Rossland kicked off its poppy campaign last week in preparation for Remembrance Day.
Residents are encouraged to show their support by pinning a poppy close to your heart, as well as attending the Remembrance Day ceremony in honour and respect for the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict, and peace.
The Remembrance Day ceremony includes a march from the Rossland Legion at 2081 Washington St. down Columbia Avenue to the cenotaph in the courtyard outside of the Rossland Library. A ceremony at the cenotaph and a march back to the Rossland Legion for food and refreshments will follow.
The Poppy Campaign is an initiative conducted by Legion branches in cities, towns, and communities across the country. Donations collected during the Poppy Campaign are held in trust at the local branch level to directly support veterans and their families within their community and to help ensure Canadians "Never Forget".
From the last Friday in October to Remembrance Day, millions of Canadians wear a poppy as a visual pledge to never forget those who served and sacrificed. The poppy campaign invites everyone in Rossland, Greater Trail and beyond to show their recognition by proudly wearing this symbol of Remembrance.
The march from the Rossland Legion Hall begins at 10:45 a.m. on Monday, November 11, but participants are encouraged to show up earlier.
