Here’s an image of the last CPR train in Rossland.
Dated July 4, 1966, the photo shows the track remover right behind the train.
The CPR train from Rossland was once the main method of transporting ore from the mines down to the Trail smelter.
It also served as a useful commuter train when mine operations stopped and many Rosslanders shifted from working at the mines to working at the smelter.
With business and mining both dwindling, Great Northern shut down its line in 1922.
The CPR trains managed to stay around a little longer, but as highways became the new transportation standard, train travel began to become obsolete.
CPR ended its passenger services in 1937 and freight services in 1966.
