New exhibit opens at downtown Trail art gallery on Tuesday

A special evening reception will be held Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at VISAC

The VISAC gallery is looking forward to kicking off 2025 with its first exhibition of the year, re:source – making materials matter.

This thought-provoking showcase celebrates the art of creative re-imagining, highlighting the transformative power of repurposed materials.

The exhibition opens with a special evening reception on Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the VISAC gallery, located at 1501 Cedar Ave., in downtown Trail.

The community is invited to enjoy an inspiring night of art appreciation with refreshments and an opportunity to meet the featured artists, Heather Stewart and Heather Good.

Through their innovative works, Nelson-based artists Stewart and Good challenge traditional ideas of artistic creation, showcasing how limitations can unlock boundless creativity.

By embracing unconventional materials and finding new purposes for discarded objects, their art offers a compelling model for sustainable practices and resourcefulness.

Visitors are encouraged to reflect on the intersections of art, sustainability, and resource conservation.

By witnessing the potential of creative reuse, audiences may discover new perspectives on the materials surrounding them and reconsider their relationship with the planet’s finite resources.

Running through March 6, the exhibition also includes a Youth Art Workshop on Feb. 14, designed to engage and inspire the next generation of artists.

As a hub for artistic expression in the West Kootenay, the VISAC is dedicated to supporting both emerging and established artists while providing fresh ways for the community to engage with art.

re:source – making materials matter is an inspiring reminder of the role creativity plays in building a sustainable future.
