Celebrate Canada all month long at Rossland museum

Rossland museum marking “Celebrate Canada Days" with free entry and a lineup of offerings

June is shaping up to be a full month of celebration at the Rossland Museum and Discovery Centre, leading into Canada Day on July 1.

The museum is marking each of the "Celebrate Canada Days" with free entry (donations welcome) and a lineup of meaningful exhibits, activities, and community events that highlight Canadian diversity, history, and identity.

National Indigenous Peoples Day – June 21

Visitors are invited to experience the official opening of the Sinixt Foundations exhibit, a new permanent addition to the museum that explores the deep cultural roots and ongoing presence of the Sinixt people.

Alongside the exhibit, guests can engage with a newly revitalized discovery kit focusing on Indigenous basketry from the region, listen to oral history recordings shared by Sinixt knowledge-keepers, and view the short film Learning mxiɬp: Cedar in the Sinixt Homeland.

Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day – June 24

Museum staff will honour Francophone culture with crafts and hands-on activities celebrating French language and traditions.

A French-language film will be screened in the museum theatre, adding a cinematic touch to the day’s festivities.

National Multiculturalism Day – June 27

Displays throughout the museum will explore the diverse histories that shape Canada, including the experiences and contributions of Chinese Canadians, the struggles for voting rights and suffrage, and the artistry of Indigenous basketry.

Entry is by donation, and the museum will be open all day.

Canada Day – July 1

The Canada Day celebration runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and promises a festive atmosphere for all ages.

The day includes live music, crafts, community group showcases, games, a bouncy house, food vendors serving tacos and hot dogs, and plenty of cold drinks.

The official ceremony begins at noon with a welcome from the Autonomous Sinixt, remarks from the Andy Morel, mayor of Rossland, the singing of O Canada, and a slice of celebratory cake.
