The Southeast Fire Centre has reinstated open burning prohibitions.

Category 2 open burning will be prohibited across the Southeast Fire Centre (SEFC) as of 12 p.m. PDT on Friday, Jul. 5.

The SEFC includes the Rocky Mountain Natural Resource District and the Selkirk Natural Resource District. It extends from Fernie Cranbrook and Kimberley west to Grand Forks and north past Golden. You can find the full prohibition area at this link: www2.gov.bc.ca

Category 2 Open fires include material in one pile not exceeding two metres in height and three metres in width, material concurrently in two piles each not exceeding two metres in height and three metres in width and stubble or grass over an area that does not exceed 0.2 hectares.

The ban also includes fire works, sky lanterns, binary exploding targets, burn barrels or burn cages of any size and air curtain burners.

This is in addition to the Category 3 open fire ban that was implemented on May 17.

This prohibition will be in affect until October 28, unless the public is otherwise notified.
