Trail singer Lisa Nicole is back in the West Kootenay and ready to share her first full-length album with local country fans.

Backed by Fruitvale native Jason Thomas, Nicole is set to play in Rossland on Aug. 13, her first live show in the Kootenays in a very long time.

Her new album, Where Wild Hearts Beat, was written and produced in Nashville, highlighted by its current single Gypsy Girl.

“For me, this song embodies a free-spirited soul who lives for spontaneous adventure and the life experiences that come with that,” said Nicole in a news release.

“It could be a road trip with your bestie or a solo move to a new country. If it starts in your spirit, it’s worth pursuing, and you’ll be rewarded.”

Lisa was inspired to create the album after a 2017 songwriting trip to Nashville put her on stage with Keith Urban to sing a duet at a pop-up concert.

From there, she moved to Nashville for the spring and summer of 2018 where she played live shows around town and connected with high-profile songwriters including Urban’s own trusted writer, Dave Pahanish, to write a batch of songs that formed the bulk of the album.

It was produced here in BC by CCMA Award-winning producer Jeff Johnson, creating a smooth country pop flavour that blends the classic country sounds of the banjo, dobro, and steel guitar with a carefree West Coast vibe.

The album also includes previously released favourites Wait On Me, Do Your Thang, and Count On You, and three never-before-heard tracks: a party anthem, Sunday Funday, a family tearjerker Dear Mama, and the emotional ballad, He’ll Be With You.

Nicole’s fellow Kootenay bandmate – guitar player Thomas – also features prominently as a musician and co-writer on the album.

“This album represents my legacy project with all of my heart and soul put into it,” said Nicole.

“I hope it inspires everyone to follow their own hearts and creative souls. If I’ve learned anything over the past 18 months, it’s that the very unpredictable journey of life is more important than any destination. Life changes in an instant and it’s impossible to predict the future. Make the most of every moment – musically and otherwise.”

Nicole will be performing on Friday, Aug. 13, 7 p.m., at the Redstone Resort in Rossland.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 day of show.
