Joey Landreth is returning to Rossland with his first solo album.

The guitarist first came to Rossland while on tour with Donovan Woods in November, and will return to the Flying Steamshovel on Saturday, Mar. 4.

Born and raised on the Canadian prairies, Landreth recorded his first album with his brother Dave as The Bros. Landreth in 2015, and this year he’s released his first solo album, Whiskey.

“It’s a continuation of the music that I started making with my brother back in 2013. I had my brother Dave play on it, as well as Ryan Voth, the original Bros. Landreth drummer,” explains Landreth. “It’s a collection of my seven favourite songs of the last year and a bit.”

Landreth plays alternative country and folk music, and he says this album has a little more guitar than the one he did with his brother and “it’s a little bit more fun.”

“It’s different in the sense that I think it kind of showcases the progress of a band of guys that have been playing together for the last four years,” he said. “And I really do think it’s a continuation of the work we sort of set out doing at the beginning with The Bros. Landreth.”

Landreth will be accompanied on tour by Voth and bassist Meg Dolovich in what will be a kind of reunion tour for the trio.

“My very first band ever was with Ryan and Meg and a singer by the name of Alexa Dirks, who plays in a band called Begonia now, and so we had our very first band together. And then the offshoot of that band was a three-piece band with me and Ryan and Meg called The Dirty Denominators, and we just played pub dates playing rock ’n’ roll cover tunes,” explained Landreth.
