Kootenay bluegrass musicians have been meeting for jam sessions at the Blueberry Creek Community School for years and will be providing the tunes for a community picnic on Friday, May 24.
Mandolins, harmonicas, Dobros and acoustic guitars were all part of the music on Friday, April 26 — the only thing the group doesn’t allow are electric guitars (with the exception of bass).
Jam sessions are normally held on the last Friday of every month (7 p.m) and it’s free to drop in.
Harvey Muller, who started the bluegrass get-togethers 13 years ago, said many of the musicians also head to Nelson every other week for jams at Bigby Place and many Nelson musicians come out to Blueberry Creek.
These musicians and others will be playing at the Blueberry Creek Community School on Friday, May 24 for the annual community picnic. Games and fun get underway at 4 p.m.
There will be carnival-style games for kids, lawn bowling and Arizona golf.
Hamburgers, hot dogs and condiments will be provided but be sure to bring your own lawn chair, plates and cutlery. Drinks complimentary.
RSVP no later than Friday, May 17 by filling out a form found on the school newsletter or contact Alana by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (250-365-72,1) for more information.
