The West Kootenay Camera Club’s 21st annual Photo Show is up and running, with entry forms now available for photographers to enter photos in nine categories before the April 29 deadline.

The 531 Trail Air Cadets won silver in the West and East Kootenay Marksmanship Competitions on March 5 in Cranbrook. Last year, the Trail Air Cadets’ first year at the competition, they won bronze.

Erin Handy at the KAST (Kootenay Association For Science and Technology) head office in downtown Rossland holds a poster advertising the “Community Science Celebration” regional science fair coming up on April 2, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Nelson’s Selkirk College campus.

As the snow melts, it’s time to sow seeds again and Ralph Behrens, a medical doctor who originally trained as a professional agronomist, is here to help, hosting the third Rossland REAL Food Sustainable Living Conversation at Café Books on March 26 at 3:30 p.m.

In response to the calamity in Japan, Rosslander David McCarthy has teamed up with Byron Whitlaw of AreaOne Events to co-organize a non-profit Japan Disaster Relief Fundraiser at the Miners’ Hall on Thursday, March 31, with all proceeds directed to Red Cross relief efforts.

Participants at a recent beekeeping workshop in Rossland drill blocks of wood with various sized holes. Others made nests out of bundles of hollow plants, or pencil sized rolls of paper.

The School District 20 Science Fair at Trail Middle School last week drew a wide range of creative talent from around the region, including a great showing by RSS, MacLean Elementary, and École des Sept-Sommets.
