A merry band of United Church goers and friends gathered at the Kerby’s farm in Happy Valley to welcome the bright rays of dawn on Easter Sunday.

Several dancers from the RSS Dance Academy and Kootenay DanceWorks have been nominated to attend the prestigious B.C. Provincial Festival to be held in Kamloops on June 4 to 9, and three dancers have auditioned and been accepted to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Alberta Ballet for summer training.

Instructor Ory Jimenez will soon offer six beginner salsa class at the Miners’ Hall, teaching the casino style which is “easy to pick up and fun to apply on the dance floor,” said Amber Hayes who is organizing the classes for Rossland Recreation.

The Mutt Strut, a fun event to show off dogs of all spots and stripes from across the region set for May 1 at Centennial Park to support the Trail SPCA, has shaped up with judges secured, including Rossland’s dog-loving mayor, vendors confirmed to sell dog goodies, prizes planned, and RSS grads running a barbecue — but volunteers are still required.

Grade 7 RSS students finished up their Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter Eggs) just in time for Easter. Raw eggs are drawn on with hot wax, dyed in vibrant colours, and finally the wax is burned off to reveal the beautiful colours that were sealed in.

Women interested in developing their ability to defend themselves will be able to hone their survival instincts in an upcoming course on "Women's Fitness and Flash-Fight Defense" to be offered at Better Life Fitness from April 30 until June 20 by Kung Fu martial artist Taylor Capozzolo.
