Roughly 100 people attended Rossland REAL Food’s seed swap and double-feature movie night at the Miners’ Hall on Sunday.

Punk Rock Bingo, every Wednesday at the Flying Steamshovel, has raised well over $2,000 for its Rossland Family Relief Fund (RFRF) since bingo kicked off again for this winter last Dec. 8.

Bee specialist Lynn Westcott will give a workshop on growing habitat and building nests for wild bees in your backyard on March 9 at 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the RSS library and wood shop.

The 27th Annual Black Jack Loppet will be held on Feb. 27, with a 10 a.m. starting gun for the mass start free technique race, and the day before, on Feb. 26 at 10 a.m., Black Jack will hold the third annual interval start classic technique Kootenay Cup.

The Blue Lake Centre, a non-profit outdoor education organization, is offering scholarships to attend their Winter BLAST program from Mar. 19 to 26.

The first of Rossland REAL Food’s sustainable conversation series featured Les Anderson’s fascinating tales of his childhood in the remote north of Saskatchewan with no power and a nearly complete reliance on the family garden, foraging, and trading with the local Cree.

The next in the sustainable conversation series is this Saturday, Feb. 19, at 3:30 p.m. at Café Books.

Bill McNally and two colleagues from Transition Nelson came to the Green Drinks event on Jan. 18 — sponsored by the Sustainability Commission at the Rouge Gallery — to describe the Community Way local currency system and how it might be implemented in the Columbia Basin.
