The community prepared a feast on Sunday night for the Kiss Off Cancer Cook-Off, Prevent Cancer Now’s first foodie fundraiser to share favourite healthy dishes and raise money and awareness for the cause.

There was no shortage of local expertise when it came to preparing healthy and tasty fare. Community potluck dishes incorporated many raw and organic ingredients and drew inspiration from international cuisine.

Chefs from local Rossland restaurants competed for the praise of testers and treated everyone to delicious appetizers, mains and desserts.

The panel of judges applauded the “top-notch” dishes and singled out favourites: The Gypsy at Red’s vegetarian samosa, Gabriella’s smoked salmon and arugula pizza, The Drift’s herb-crusted salmon with beet salad and The Flying Steam Shovel’s curry with cranberry chutney.

Best Main went to Anne-Marie Sterpin’s South African fruit and vegetable curry, a recipe inspired by the famous vegetarian cookbook “Sunday’s at The Moosewood.” Kimberley Pegg’s chocolate and nut-covered strawberries were the crowd pleaser for dessert.

Co-organizer Deb Dovgala was pleased by the success of the event and said that it could lead to similar community fundraisers across the country.
