The Rossland Public Library (RPL) is drastically changing its service delivery model for users after it physically shut down on March 17 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
RSL interim director Stacy Bodden said the library has expanded its digital content online in recent weeks for users.
“We’ve recently downloaded more content onto Overdrive, which allows people to access audio books and ebooks online,” said Bodden.
“Another one of our services called RB Digital also has more digital content now so users can access ebooks from other libraries.”
Bodden said the library is getting around 1000 more ebooks online for users on a daily basis.

Bodden said her staff have also been going out into the community more to let older residents enjoy library material.
“We’re doing a lot more services for our visually-impaired patrons, which involves us taking a DAISY Reader out to different care homes in Rossland,” said Bodden.
“A DAISY Reader is essentially a giant calculator. You put a tape into it and it plays the book’s audio for you.”
Not everyone has been adjusting as well to the online services as others, according to Bodden.
“We’re getting a lot of calls around tech support for our e-services,” said Bodden.
“A lot of people are needing passwords for their library cards to access different e-services. A lot of people are also calling us asking about how to set up a library card.”
During the COVID-19 crisis, Bodden said her staff have also adjusted by primarily working from home.
Despite the closure, Bodden said the library is still only one click or call away.
“Even though we’re closed, we’re still here for everybody,” she said.
“Please still call or email us and we’ll help you out with whatever library services you need.”
