Rossland Public Library Announcements and Information

Programming News: From now until Feb. 18, go on a Blind Date with a book. Pick up a wrapped book, take it home and let us know what you think.

• Feb. 20 to 26 is Freedom to Read week. There will be a banned books display and more information.

• Our Free Library has been installed out front. You may take a book or leave a book.

• The Winter Carnival Ice Slide is still available for outdoor fun!

• Naturalist Loaner Kits are still being loaned! Load up your snowshoes and pick up one of our backpacks full of guides on local plants and wildlife, binoculars, magnifying glasses, and checklists! Backpacks can be loaned out for 3 weeks and are great for kid and adult wilderness adventurers!

• Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) take-home packages are available for families. A new kit, highlighting a new aspect of STEM is offered every Tuesday. Demonstrations upon request.

Art Displays: View “The Covid Gallery” by Freya and Annika Dixon-Reuszt and Jane Dixon-Warren as well as new art by Morgan Bialkowski and Sharon Roberts.

• Works by Sue Dean, Lena Obal, Janell Lancaster, and Julie MacDermott are in Harry’s Room.

• Artists interested in having their work displayed may apply online at https://rossland.bc.libraries.coop/local-artwork-in-the-library/

Raven Reads: The next Raven Reads meets Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in person to discuss Keeper ‘n Me by Richard Wagamese. To participate, register at ravenreadsbookclub@gmail.com. Copies of the novel are available at the front desk or through the Overdrive/Libby apps as e-books.

Indigenous Book Club: The next meeting is via Zoom on Tuesday, March 15th from 7:00 to 8:30 to discuss The Northwest is our Mother: The Story of Louis Riel’s People, the Metis Nation by Jean Teillet. Limited paper copies are available. Ask the front desk staff how to access your e-copy.

Kootenay Local Book Club:The next Kootenay Read Local Book Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24 via Zoom to discuss In Rhino We Trust by Dave Butler. For more information, email kootenaylibrariesprogramming@gmail.com
