This past week, Rossland mom and author Darcee O’Hearn saw her book published and released.

O’Hearn was around on Golden City Days to autograph copies, promote her new book and have a reading as well.

“It’s been an absolutely wonderful experience writing these books and getting them to the point that they are published, printed and ready to sell,” O’Hearn said.

Her book, Leonard the Larch, was funded entirely on her own, something that she had a struggle with a times, but she wants to now pass on the knowledge she’s gained.

“What I’m also going to offer is how to publish - self-publish - a kids book,” she said.

“I’m going to offer classes on how to self publish and how to go after your dreams and not get discouraged, because this book business is extremely discouraging, it’s extremely hard. It’s been the harder thing I’ve ever done.”

She said it was even more difficult in ways than recovering from a spinal cord injury.

The book will be on, as well as some local shops like Jelly Bean Junction.

“I’m going to hit the West Kootenay reading the book in two weeks,” O’Hearn added.

She has a bunch of events booked but no solid dates yet. She will also be participating in an event at the Kootenay Gallery in Castlegar.

Other plans include signing on with Columbia Basin Environmental Health Network. The network gives teachers, professionals, educators $100 to go out and teach, which she plans to do.

O’Hearn will do book tours, visit libraries, schools, and take kids out on classroom fieldtrips. All the money she raises selling the books will go directly towards producing the next book in the series.
