A strong level of support was shown for the 2013 festival

After a very successful debut the time has come to begin planning the second Pass Creek Gospel Music Festival event, so, an organizational meeting is coming up on January 14, 2014, 7 p.m. at the Kinnaird Church of God. Anyone who would like to become involved, who has ideas to share or who just wants to hear what is going on is encouraged to attend.

The festival needs to be more formal in structure. This past year a group of three individuals planned and ran the whole event.

We need to open a bank account and to do that we need an executive and minutes of a meeting. One of the first items on the agenda will be to elect a president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer.

We need people who can run the sound and light systems during the festival. We also need to talk about what this year's festival will look like as I had mentioned expanding to a three-day event during the concert last year, but many people have cautioned against abandoning the one-day format we used last year, at least at this time.

We have booked July 19, as the date for 2014.

There will also be a meeting on the same evening beginning at 6:30 to gauge interest in starting a Kootenay Gospel Choir. While right now it is somewhat connected to the Pass Creek Gospel Music Fest it will be a separate entity that does not just perform at the music fest. It is hoped the group could be involved in various other events such as the Community Carol Sing. It would depend on how much time and energy the members are able to commit. The choir would need a director, about eight male and 10 female singers, a backup group consisting of piano, organ, guitar, bass and drums plus people to handle sound and lights.

The meeting is mainly going to be used to get an idea if there is enough interest to pursue this further. Anyone from the Castlegar, Nelson, Salmo, Fruitvale, Trail and Rossland areas who might be interested in either meeting is encouraged to attend.
